About the company

Karfelt & Associates was formed in the summer of 2003 when Donald B. Harper, P.L.S.,P.E., acquired the business interest of Leonard Karfelt, P.L.S., doing business as Leonard Karfelt Surveying. As part of the purchase agreement, Mr. Karfelt agreed to remain with the new company as a professional consultant. Mr. Karfelt’s staff remained intact following the transition.

Mr. Karfelt founded Leonard Karfelt Surveying in 1976 and has dedicated the last 27 years to providing southwestern Pennsylvania with the finest professional surveying services. Over the years Mr. Karfelt had purchased the records of numerous surveyors that had worked in the area. Mr. Karfelt recognized that old survey records can provide valuable information that is generally not on public record for use in making sustainable property line determinations. Mr. Karfelt’s office manager, Tammy M. Grabiak, has been with his company for 11 years providing the expertise necessary to navigate the municipal and government agency approval process that many projects demand.

Mr. Harper is determined to continue the excellence that has produced Mr. Karfelt’s strong and solid professional reputation. In addition to continue offering the finest in professional surveying services, Mr. Harper plans to use his engineering expertise to expand the business by providing land development engineering services. This would be a natural expansion of services for the company since success with land development projects relies heavily on a firm’s ability to successfully manage the applicable municipalities’ approval process.

Karfelt & Associates currently employs a staff of five people. Mr. Harper’s current business strategy is to continue offering the finest professional surveying services possible. Over the years Mr. Harper has developed relationships with some of the best professional talent in the area, and plans to use these relationships to enhance the company staff as the company expands.
