Meet the professional staff

DONALD B. HARPER, P.L.S.,P.E. is the owner and principal of Karfelt & Associates. Mr. Harper earned a B.S. degree in civil engineering from the Pennsylvania State University in 1976 and upon passing the Sate examination became licensed as a Professional Land Surveyor in 1977. He later became licensed as a Professional Engineer in 1987. During his career, Mr. Harper worked as a survey chief of party surveying the Appalachian Trail for the National Park’s Service land acquisition program; managed the construction surveying for the present Greater Pittsburgh Airport; and managed numerous PennDOT and U.S. Corps of Engineers surveying contracts. While working for several southwestern Pennsylvania firms Mr. Harper has performed and professionally certified thousands of boundary and subdivision surveys. Mr. Harper resides in South Huntingdon Township, Westmoreland County, PA with his wife Susan and daughter Julia.

 

 LEONARD D. KARFELT, P.L.S. presently serves as a consultant to the office of Karfelt & Associates. Mr. Karfelt, upon passing the State examination, became licensed as a Professional Land Surveyor in 1973. During his pre-licensed years he was a long term employee of Adam Eidemiller Inc., where he worked as a survey chief of party. During this time, Mr. Karfelt performed all survey work for the construction surveying on scores of highway and bridge projects and performed all survey work for the construction of the Westmoreland Mall, Greensburg, PA. In 1976, Mr. Karfelt founded Leonard Karfelt Surveying, working out of an office in his home before moving to the present location in Youngwood, PA in 1988. Since 1976 Mr. Karfelt has performed thousands of boundary, subdivision and construction surveys throughout Westmoreland and the surrounding counties. Mr. Karfelt resides in Hempfield Township, Westmoreland County, PA with his wife Elaine.

TAMMY M. GRABIAK, AET is employed by Karfelt & Associates serving as office manager. In 1978, Ms. Grabiak earned a degree in Architectural Engineering Technology from the Pennsylvania State University. She had worked for several local firms before joining Leonard Karfelt Surveying in 1992. Ms. Grabiak has over twenty years of experience dealing with local Municipalities and Planning Commissions involving subdivision and land development projects, and is highly regarded by her peers for her expertise in this area. Ms. Grabiak resides in Connellsville, PA with her husband Daniel and children Rachael and Bethany.
